2nd Sunday of Advent, Year C
In our reading, the people of Jerusalem were sad and suffering in their exile in Babylon. Baruch gives them hope that God will lead them home to Jerusalem. Because of God’s justice and mercy they are saved. They will be joyful at home again.
In our Gospel, John was living in the desert and God spoke to him and told him to preach to the people. John told everyone to change their lives and be baptized so their sins would be forgiven. The prophet Isaiah wrote about John a long time before. John will prepare others for the coming of God.
