4th Sunday in Advent, Year C
In our reading, the prophet Micah tells those in Bethlehem that even though they live in a small city, an important person will be born there and become ruler of all of Israel He will become strong with the help of God. He will be a shepherd and he will feed his people. All the world will know how great he is.
In our gospel, the angel Gabriel told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was going to have a baby. Mary went as quickly as she could up in the hill country of Judah where Elizabeth and Zechariah lived. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, her baby moved. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She knew how blessed Mary was because she believed in the promise that God made.
