Epiphany of the Lord, Year A
Epiphany means “showing” of Jesus to everyone. Did anyone have special visitors for Christmas? Jesus had three special visitors we hear about today.
The Magi came from countries to the East and are supposed to represent all the peoples of the world.
Gold was brought by Melchior – a sign of Christ’s royalty, a precious and expensive metal, often worn by kings.
Frankincense was brought by Caspar – symbolizes Jesus’ holiness as God’s Son, like the incense we sometimes use during mass.
Myrrh was brought by Balthazar – a perfumed ointment used for burial of dead, a sign that Christ was to suffer and die.
What gift would you give Jesus?
